The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Career Residency Program sets your career in motion.  The two-year, paid professional development residency program provides recent graduates with an exceptional opportunity to become an integral part of DOT’s future. 

We are looking for motivated individuals who are innovative and academically prepared to fill “mission critical” positions as part of our 2008 Transportation Career Residency Program — your fast lane to professional development and career mobility.

The program provides Residents with a variety of challenging, yet rewarding, job rotations and work experiences.  Through a combination of mentoring, training, and development planning, Residents will enhance their strategic, management, and technical skills.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

You must be a United States Citizen to apply. To be considered for the Career Residency Program, you must have a master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the GS-9 level.

The 2008 Career Residency Program application form is available at www.careers.dot.gov/08CRP.   To apply, email your application form, transcript(s), and resume to career.residency@dot.gov.  Applications must be received no later than April 25, 5:00 pm EST.  DOT will review applications on an ongoing basis and contact candidates for interviews throughout the open period of the announcement.  Applications will be reviewed on February 21, March 28, April 25, 2008 (closing date).  Following these dates, we will contact selected qualified applicants to schedule interviews.  We will give equal consideration to all applications received.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salaries can grow rapidly and steadily.  An exceptional GS-9 employee who satisfactorily performs all required responsibilities and demonstrates skills at the next grade level may be eligible to advance. Based on the fiscal year 2008 pay scale for employees in the Washington, DC area, Residents start at $48,108 and could earn about $70,000 at the GS-12 level after two years.
